"The Church on earth is by its very nature missionary since, according to the plan of the Father, it has its origin in the mission of the Son and the Holy Spirit.(Decree on the Church's Missionary Activity #2).This missionary nature of the Church is expressed through the RCIA sacramental preparation process in which persons who are uncatechized and/or unbaptized, or who have already been living the Christian life, prepare to fully embrace the Faith as new Catholics. The process is interior, spiritual, communal, and social, as well as doctrinal and instructive.
God Calls You by Name bursts with USCCB approved content suitable for use by directors and catechists throughout the Rite of Christian Initiation process. The supplement that is part of the catechists' edition provides simple lessons suitable for initial catechesis, and it offers a method for correlating instruction with the three liturgical lectionary cycles. It also provides retreat suggestions and some tips for RCIA directors.
This work is an effort to enhance those recommendations, and to provide proximate preparation for those who accept the challenge of preparing adults for the reception of the Catholic Sacraments of Initiation. It offers many more useful suggestions designed to help RCIA directors launch a parish process.
